Side Project: New From Old

A rare and amazing side project for Studio Outline recently: To create something new from an unwanted gold ring. The original ring was a mass produced celtic filigree style band, now a little too thin and fragile to remain as a ring. It was no longer worn by the owner so they very kindly donated it to me to experiment with!

I opted to bisect the band and carefully sculpt the resulting wire by hand with a flame into freeform stud hoop earrings adorned with tiny flattened gold ‘pebbles’. A fabulous opportunity to freestyle in gold, a valuable material conserved and reused ...and a fresh modern pair of earrings returned the owner to wear and enjoy for years to come!
